Here I am at the end of my tummy rehab…what a difference 8 weeks makes!

These past 2 months have be informative, enlightening, challenging and transformative.  I am proud of my efforts, and I am amazed at the changes that I see in my body.  There is much to say about the Tummy Team’s Core Foundations program, so let me address them in sections.

Firstly, this program is straight physical therapy. The goals of Kelly Dean’s Core Foundations are to make you aware of your transverse abdominus, to strengthen and innervate that muscle, and to show you how to move with it (correctly) in everyday life. This is NOT a fitness program, but it does prepare you to be able to do fitness moves properly, and more importantly, how to use your core correctly in every day of your life. I have never done any type of PT before, but I feel like this was the piece that I needed to really correct a lot of things that I was doing incorrectly.

The format of Core Foundations is perfect. The program is accessible week by week, and you only can access your current week and the ones you have already completed. Simply put, you cannot jump ahead, which is great. It forces you to focus on the week in front of you and what Kelly is teaching you. Each week contains a set of videos (which I could easily access on my desktop and my mobile devices). Some are longer than others, depending upon what Kelly is explaining. I personally like the way she guides you through the process, and I am grateful for the way she can explain the body science of the exercises without talking over your head. Kelly gives you a way to do your PT in manageable bites so that you can master one thing at a time, or at the very least, get better at it.

Kelly gives you tools to use for a lifetime. Kelly Dean is really good about giving tools/cues in the videos to help you integrate your PT into your everyday living. She is consistently reminding you of how to do your moves in the car, as you stand in line at Walmart, and while you are at home. She is a mom of 3 herself, so she really gets that we need to be able to multitask our lifestyle to accommodate our therapy. I felt empowered that I was making progress throughout the day as I did my daily routine, and that did wonders for my state of mind.

My personal improvements have been in steps and stages. I have progressed steadily, but subtly. The first 3 weeks was the most intense for me, and I think it was just because of the fact that I (my brain) was making several adjustments and changes all at once. My biggest leap came when Kelly not only addressed pelvic bowl alignment, but rib cage alignment (the other bowl) as well. The Skype session that she recommends really helped her to see my issue and correct it. My issue was more up top, and knowing that propelled me light-years ahead in seeing a difference in the carriage of my body. You can read a little bit about this here.  I feel better, stronger, I carry my body better, and my tummy is much less pronounced. Win!

I have to admit that initially, I wasn’t sure how effective an online PT program could be for me. I had dealt with diastasis for so long that I was a bit cautious. However, this being a PT program was a huge draw for me, and I was not disappointed.  Core Foundations has affected much change in my body, and I feel like I have things in place (in the way I think about my body) to continue to recover well.  I am so thankful for Kelly and the Tummy Team, and for making this program available, especially to those of us who arent close to pelvic floor and diastasis specialists.  This program is a sound and productive investment of time and resources. If you have ever thought about purchasing it for yourself or as a gift for someone you love, you wont be disappointed.

Feel free to click here to read more information on Core Foundations. And if you have already completed Core Foundations, Kelly has just released her follow-up program, Core Integrations. Help is here…take a moment to invest in your recovery!

Here’s to being fit and moving well,

Dee

  5. […] As many of you who follow me on this blog know, I just finished some much needed tummy rehab in January of this year. This was due to dealing with a diastasis recti which occurred after the birth of my first child, over 19 years ago. It was such a blessing to be able to do the Tummy Team’s Core Foundations online program for some dedicated rehabilitation on my core muscles and functionality. {You can read a review of that program from Kelly Dean here.} […]
