I am just finding out about this Apollo 11 Movie, and I am super excited! After my visit to NASA Langley last week, all I have been thinking about is space travel, and I can’t seem to get enough of all things space.  The Apollo 11 mission put the very first earthlings on the foreign soil of another heavenly body, and so to now have a movie about it makes my space-loving heart a happy one 🙂

Synopsis from the Apollo 11 Movie website:

From director Todd Douglas Miller (Dinosaur 13) comes a cinematic event fifty years in the making. Crafted from a newly discovered trove of 65mm footage, and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings, Apollo 11 takes us straight to the heart of NASA’s most celebrated mission—the one that first put men on the moon, and forever made Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin into household names. Immersed in the perspectives of the astronauts, the team in Mission Control, and the millions of spectators on the ground, we vividly experience those momentous days and hours in 1969 when humankind took a giant leap into the future.

I was 3 months old when the Apollo 11 mission took place, so I don’t really have any first-hand memories of how the whole event played out. I just know about the mission to get men to the moon by what I have read in (many, many) books and the footage that has been available.

Needless to say, I am very excited to be able to watch it unfold on the big screen! It will be the next best thing to having seen the actual event live, and it is due in large part to the way this film team has handled this archival footage. Apollo 11 is in theaters now. Have you seen it? Please share you thoughts with me here in the comments!

Grateful to the crew of Apollo 11 for their bravery and spirit of exploration,
