I’m going to run a marathon…#MYMarchMarathon!

I’m going to run a marathon in March.

Yes, it will be 26.2 miles, but I won’t be the conventional way of doing it.

I was a bit inspired by those I know who just ran the Disney Princess Half events of this past weekend. {And truthfully, I was a bit jelly seeing all the pics of people running in that warm sunshine while we had over 1.5 feet of snow, just sayin} so, while I don’t have warm temps and the Magic Kingdom to run past, I DO have excitement and motivation to get me moving!

I found out in 2002 that I love running. I was trying to walk off a bit of weight after the birth of our 3rd (and last) baby. I wanted to accelerate the pace and kick it into a higher gear. Mind you, I HATED running as a teen, and I never wanted to sweat like that on purpose. Nevertheless, I liked working towards the goal of running 30 minutes straight (I had never done that before, ever.) at the age of 33, I began by walking for 5 minutes, running for 2, for a total of 20 minutes. Almost each time I went outside, I would increase the running time by just a bit more. Over a period of a few weeks, I got up to 20 minutes running, and then eventually 30. And I finally knew what a runners high felt like!

I was hooked. I worked up to running an hour straight, did 3 5Ks, and called myself a runner. Over the years, I have run in cycles, but the love for the feeling I have when I run has not left. And one of my goals has been to run a runDisney event, ever since back in the day when the Marathon in January was the only one to run.

And so here I am, creating my own version of a 26.2 mile journey for the month of March. I have done a bit of the math, and I need to run/walk roughly 6.6 miles each week for the 4 weeks in March. Since I want to put a rest day between runs, I’m looking at 4 days per week max. Soooo…that means 1.7 miles each run. It’s been a while since I have done that on the regular, but I’m feeling good about pushing to do it. With God’s help, I feel up to the challenge!

And what is a good challenge without a good reward? There is this pendant from InspiredEndurance.com that I have been sweating for a while:

It will make a GREAT reward for reaching my goal 😉

The hash tag for this event will be #MyMarchMarathon and I will be posting updates and progress on social media with it. Would you like to join in on the fun with me? You have nothing to lose (well, maybe some pounds if we do it right, lol!) Let me know in the comments. Hope to see you lace up and hit the treadmill!

  7. […] We are off to a good start! If you have been following me (and for those just tuning in), I start my own fitness challenge for March. In honor of the Disney Princess Half festivities that happened in February (and since I could not be down in Orlando in all that warm weather) I decided to run my own marathon. Now, I am not at the point where I can run all 26.2 miles at once, so the challenge is to do it in the month of March, breaking down the mileage into weekly chunks. And hence, the #MyMarchMarathon was born! You can read more about it here. […]
