Okay, so I am thinking about doing something fun.
I have wanted to run a Disney race ever since we started visiting WDW as a family in 2002. At that time, the only race weekend was the classic Marathon at the first part of January. Since then, Disney has added a plethora of fun races, for all distances and themes. I know that it is hard work to train for a race, but everyone looks and sounds like it is definitely an experience to be had!
Well, I will let the cat out of the bag: my desire is to plan and train for a 2017 race, in person, at Walt Disney World. There, I said it out loud (YIKES) I will only have one teen homeschooling high schooler left, and the eldest two will both be in college. I will have a moment to breathe and take a trip to FL for a race.
In the meantime, However, I think it would be great fun to get into the spirit of things by doing something from home. My thought is to run a virtual 5K race from home on Disney race weekends!
I just ran my first virtual 5K on Dec. 6 – the Global 5K sponsored by Runkeeper – and I was so proud that I stepped out and did it. Of course, this is not be the same as running with the masses in the same location. That feeling cannot be replicated, no matter where the race is. Nevertheless, it would be great fun to put these races into my workout plan as a challenge to look forward to, not to mention giving myself an opportunity to dress up for each 5k. And yes, I will be glad to reward myself with some race bling of my choice 😉
And in honor of this weekend’s Star Wars Half weekend in Disneyland CA, I just ran a 5k this morning:
Have you ever done a virtual race? Would you like to join me? My next 5K will be on the Princess Half weekend next month (see the runDisney sched here.) Let me know…I would love to hear from you!
Running from home,
