Sleek. Contemporary. Welcoming. Locally sourced.
These are just a few of the words that come to mind as I think about the new Montpelier Restaurant and Bar that has opened here in Harrisonburg!
Montpelier is the in-house fine dining establishment for Hotel Madison, the official hotel of JMU (in partnership with the city of Harrisonburg). It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for both guests of the hotel, students, and the community at-large. Montpelier is considered upscale casual, and it seats about 180 patrons. In addition, there is the Dolley Madison private dining room for special occasions and events.
The soft opening was in September, and my husband and I took advantage of the opportunity to have a date-night dining experience 🙂 Here is some of what we saw and experienced:
Making an Entrance
This is the view of the restaurant from the front of Hotel Madison. The hotel offers valet parking not too far from the door, so that you can go right into Montpelier from the front.
Here we have the entrance from inside the hotel. The view offers signature artwork and lighting that add to the contemporary feel.
Inside Montpelier Restaurant
Montpelier offers a range of seating options, from the bar area to seating in the main dining room.
…And the Food
Montpelier is proud to offer farm-to-table cuisine, locally sourced from the Shenandoah Valley. My husband and I enjoyed some unique twists (southern style) on tried and true favorites, like pork ribs, salmon, cheddar grits, and collard greens.
We enjoyed both the food and the service. In my opinion, Montpelier is a fine and suitable addition to all that JMU and Harrisonburg have to offer guests and visitors.
