Flashback Friday from the archives: Life after keloid scars

This is one of my most favorite articles I have written. Ever. It’s from July of 2011…enjoy!

Hola all!

For the first time in my life since age 18, I am living keloid-free…and I praise God for it!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with keloids, please let me explain them to you. Keloids are a result of the skin not knowing when to quit when a scar forms…it is basically a run-away scar. Not only can they be quite unsightly, but they can be very painful as well.

I lived for a little over 20 years dealing with keloids on my left and right ears that I got as a result of getting my ears pierced at age 18. In addition to not being able to wear earrings for that long, as well as undergoing 2 surgeries, I endured having to deal with stares and questions from those who did not understand. Sleeping on one side could be painful at times.

But God…

Led me to a plastic surgeon in 2008 who specializes in only surgeries from the collarbone up. Long story short, he gave me a series of Kenalog shots in my earlobes (ugh) that worked to shrink the growths and cause them to disappear. (Big shout out to Dr. Joe Niamtu in Richmond, Virginia…lovethatface.com) I am a witness that the Lord uses those in the medical field to bring forth His healing, and I am forever grateful.

Have you dealt with a keloid or do you know someone who does? Please know that there is hope and help…God wants you whole.

Well, I have to run…sleep is beckoning! Have a great July 4th,

Dee
